PLATINUM ULTOR DRVINIG SCHOOL programme has been launched in cooperation with Volvo Trucks Driver Training. The programme comprises a cycle of trainings which are intended to increase road safety and raise the awareness in terms of economical use of vehicles. The first courses for selected ORLEN Oil clients took place on 25-27 May in Młochów, the headquarters of Volvo Group Trucks Poland.
Safe driving coupled with conscious use translates into driving economics and allows for as much as 10% reduction in fuel consumption. In the light of increasing focus on the costs of running transport business, safety and the development of drivers' skills have gained a new dimension.
"The Platinum ULTOR Driving School programme targets the owners of transport bases who want to increase the safety awareness and professional qualifications of their drivers and reduce fuel consumption. The participation in the training is a bonus for purchasing products from the Platinum ULTOR oils line," says Paweł Wiktor, ORLEN Oil product manager in charge of the truck oils segment.
The PLATINUM ULTOR DRIVING SCHOOL programme for professional drivers includes theoretical training and practical exercises in safe and economical driving. During the first part of the training, the participants expand their theoretical knowledge concerning driving technique, safety aspects and fuel economics as well as innovative solutions used in Volvo trucks, which contribute to increased safety and fuel savings.
The second part of the training involves driving a unit comprising a Volvo FH 500 HP truck tractor and a loaded trailer with a total weight of 39 tonnes. Each driver rides a 36-kilometre-long course within a defined time limit. The rides are subject to evaluation – the best fuel consumption result from the three days of training in a given month qualifies the participant for the main competition in December this year.
"The results from the first three days of training prove the high level of the participants' skills. The course includes a challenging section of the national road no 8 with its typical dense traffic and three crossings with traffic lights on the way. The fuel consumption results at the level of 22.4 l/100 km indicate a perfect combination of a superb driver and an economical Volvo truck, especially if we bear in mind that the participants often drive trucks of other makes on an everyday basis," sums up Marusz Kowalski, Business Solution Team Leader in Volvo Group Trucks Poland.
By the end of this year, as many as 12 trainings will have taken place, each attended by 6 drivers at the same time. The participant who achieves the lowest total fuel consumption during the training in a given month will attend the main competition planned in December this year, in which the main prize is a tour of the Volvo Trucks plant in Sweden.
